This project needs functional specifications and an information architecture
in order to be a successful, long term project which will accomplish its
intended goals.

There is much historic archival material which could be stored in the
system once it has been implemented.

When

We want to have a minimum of four meetings per year, each one
coinciding with a planned event or tour. We should also take advantage of
"spontaneous" events, such as visiting a pour at Knight Foundry.

How

Some events should be open to both public and members, others to
members only. We should provide several ways of giving notice to
members and public about events and meetings, including a mailing list
(both using the mail and electronic mail) and a telephone tree. We still
need to decide about how to handle the cost of our events. We should
investigate insurance for the Chapter generally and our events in
particular.

Why

Our goals for holding events are to:

* Have fun

* Educate - ourselves and the public

* Provoke and incite

* Build membership

* Encourage more general interest in IA

* Raise funds - for our Chapter and other purposes (Knight Foundry
again)

* Generate new ideas?

Where

There were many suggestions about where we should hold field trips and
tours, the consensus being that we should stay on the west coast in general,
and focus primarily on northern California. Here are the suggestions from
the meeting, with some additions:

Salt works (Cargill)

Mining Nevada City

Life Saving Station (Point Reyes)

Follow course of the South Pacific Coast RR: Alameda to Santa Cruz
