Founded by the Bay, by
Anthony Kirk, was written to celebrate the
hundredth anniversary of the Macauley Foundry. It is
illustrated by some
wonderful photographs of the foundry in older times (alas,
no pictures
from today) which are enhanced by the beautiful printing
job done in Italy.
The book tells the story of how the Foundry was started in
1896 by Henry
Clayton Macauley. The Foundry supplied castings for a
large number of
companies, including Byron Jackson Machine Works, a
manufacturer of
centrifugal water pumps which were critical in irrigating
California
farmlands; the Hall-Scott Motor Car Company, an early
manufacturer of
gasoline-driven railway cars, automobiles and engines for
aeroplanes; the
Joshua Hendy Iron Works, which among their other products
manufactured triple-expansion steam engines for Liberty
ships; and many
others. The Macauley Foundry has earned a reputation for
high quality
work over the last century -- this book illustrates why.
The book is available for $19.75 (which including shipping
and handling)
plus $1.32 tax (California residents only). Please make
your check payable
