POURING IRON

The Video Documentary of Knight Foundry
by David Weitzman, Lora Change and Andy Fahrenwald

  • Pouring Ironexplores the history of Knight
Foundry; the production process is demonstrated in
close detail - pattern making, molding, pouring and
machining. This 124 year old foundry is preserved
pretty much as constructed and the foundry processes
are only very slightly modernized from 19th century
    practice.
  • Wooden jib booms move pieces of work weighing
thousands of pounds; the entire foundry, down to the
lathes and grinders, is still water-powered with
patented Knight Wheels driving a completely intact
system of overhead line shafts and belt drives.
  • Featuring veteran Knight Foundry workers directing
younger workers, we see the apprentice process as it
happens. Most of Pouring Ironis first person stories
and hands on demonstrations by foundry workers.
  • Produced as a visitor orientation program with the
help of the National Trust for Historic Preservation
and the Friends of Knight Foundry, Pouring Iron
brings Knight Foundry back to life. Consider showing
this tape to bring business and support to help revive
    the foundry.

Pouring Ironis $20.00 plus $3.00 S&H
A portion of the proceeds goes to benefit the Amador County Museum in Jackson.
